TERPware

TERPware is a software distribution service for University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff. TERPware offers a wide variety of software packages at no charge, including site-licensed products from Adobe, Microsoft, and other vendors. Software packages include programs for operating systems, office applications, and anti-virus. The university pays for the licenses through agreements with vendors; this allows students, faculty, and staff to use the programs available through TERPware free of charge. The TERPware server is regularly updated, so patches and upgrades for UMD-supported software are consistently available.

Google

G Suite for Education

G Suite for Education is a set of web applications for personal productivity and collaboration for use by faculty, staff, and graduate students. Provisioned automatically for faculty, staff and Graduate Assistants with active appointments. Students have access G Suite through TERPmail.

Applications include: Gmail for email, Contacts, Calendar, Forms, Docs for word processing, Sheets for spreadsheets, Slides for presentations, Drive for cloud storage, and Chat/Meet/Hangouts for real-time communication.

Save your work files to Drive and use Docs, Sheets, and Slides to edit them. You can share with co-workers and edit the same file at the same time, showing revisions and comments. Because Drive is integrated with Gmail, you can now save attachments directly to Drive. Plus, with unlimited storage, you never have to worry about saving or uploading too much.

Box

Box is a cloud-based storage and collaboration system that provides a Web interface for uploading, downloading, sharing, and discussing files. It is designed to work on Macs, PCs, smartphones, and tablets, so it gives you access to your files from just about anywhere. Plus, with unlimited storage, you never have to worry about saving or uploading too much.

Cisco Webex

Webex includes integrated voice through your computer, on-campus dial-in at x50600 and through a global network of dial-in numbers. Webex enables faculty, staff, and students to meet with internal and external colleagues over the Internet using multi-party conferencing and screen sharing. WebEx is designed to work on PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets.

Webex provides three centers: Meeting Center is video conferencing in your personal virtual meeting room or in a scheduled room; Training Center provides lectures, labs and breakout sessions online; and Event Center is great for large “broadcast” events and webinars.

Instructors or room “owners” control how others can communicate within the room; modes include: voice, video, presentations, and chat. Proceedings of a WebEx session can be recorded and shared with students within the ELMS course space via a link to the WebEx service.
